Throwback Thursday
Back in 1991, GAM introduced the high precision bellows servo coupling to the North American machine builder market.  Here is the first coupling brochure that GAM ever printed:

GAM Coupling Catalog (Original)

(Inside Pages)
While a lot of things have changed since then...the core values of GAM have stayed the same:
  • Dedication to customers
  • Customizing product to fit the needs of our customers
  • Technical Engineering Support
  • Responsiveness
  • Introducing high quality and new generation products
  • State of the art manufacturing
  • Long term relationships with customers

One of the best parts of the brochure are the customer testimonials.  What's even better, is that they are still our customers today....over 21 years later.

Here are those testimonials:

"One of the attributes we look for in a supplier is 'responsiveness'.  I think the following story best shows GAM's concern for their customer's needs.

'It was a Friday afternoon and our service engineer was at a customer's plant in Ashdown, Arkansas, servicing one of the packaging machines we manufacture.  He found he needed a coupling in order to get the equipment up and running by Monday morning.  He called GAM from his hotel room that afternoon.  On Saturday, he received the coupling at his hotel room, precision bored on both ends to his specifications, with keyways'

Our service engineer had the packaging machine ready to go by Monday and we had another satisfied customer."

"As the largest manufacturer of double enveloping worm gears in the world, we must provide our customers with quality and high performance in order to maintain our leading position.  Whenever an application arises that requires zero backlash, high stiffness, and low inertia, we recommend GAM couplings.  These couplings exemplify the quality and high performance we demand.  Plus, their compact size easily fits inside our standard motor adapters."

Senior Applications Engineer
Cone Drive Operations Inc.

"As a retrofitter of CNC Screw Machines for the metal working industry, we understand that reducing downtime and minimizing machine damages caused by collisions are very important to our customers.  That is the reason why we turned to GAM for the excellent engineering assistance.  Because motor current relays react too slowly to protect our machines against damaging inertial forces, GAM helped us design a compact safety coupling which will disconnect the motor from the drive within 3-5 milliseconds.  Engineering safety is our highest priority in designing our machines and with GAM, we are meeting the concerns of our customers."

Happy Holidays from GAM

Looking back over the last year, there have been some exciting changes at GAM.  We launched a new website that features an interactive catalog, which makes it easier to find up to date information and drawings for all of our products.

We improved our in-house manufacturing capabilities by investing in new equipment, infrastructure, and by adding team members.  This has helped us to increase our capacity, reduce lead-times, and be more flexible to meet the needs of our customers.

We launched several new products and have already started working on developing others which we will be introducing throughout 2013.  One of the products we are particularly excited about is our PMK (Parallel Mount Kit).  The PMK will be the newest addition to our Linear Mount Product range and is a custom mounting solution that brings any motor or gearbox parallel to any screw driven actuator.  Contact our sales team for more information on the PMK or any other GAM gearbox or coupling products.

From everyone at GAM, we wish you Happy Holidays and a great 2013!

A few GAM Gear employees participated in Movember

Movember is a month long campaign that raises awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and treatment.  Participants across the globe show their support by growing out their mustaches for the entire month of November.  While Travis (left) and Matt (right) were more than happy to participate in the charity, they are equally excited to break out their razors and finally shave.

L-Series mini spiral bevel gearbox - Product Spotlight
GAM L-Series Mini Spiral Bevel Gearbox

When we say "mini" spiral bevel gearboxes...we really mean "mini".  With 35mm and 45mm frame sizes, GAM's L-Series are some of the smallest gearboxes available on the market.

The L-Series features include:
  • 11 shaft configurations available
  • Housing constructed of high strength and light weight aluminum
  • Max output torque up to 16Nm
  • Smooth running

Perfect for semi-conductor, pharmaceutical, medical, or other mechatronic applications when performance is required but space is a premium.

With the PACK EXPO 2012 trade show happening this week in Chicago, now is a great time to show off a few of the solutions that GAM is providing for some of our packaging and food processing customers.

In the first example, our standard EPL gearbox has an anodized housing and anodized ring gear.  These modifications provide additional corrosion resistance and because standard EPL parts are used, none of the dimensions change.
GAM EPL Gearbox

The next example is another EPL series gearbox with an anodized housing along with a stainless steel paint coating on the input housing and motor adapter.  The stainless steel coating provides further corrosion resistance at a low cost and quick turnaround.
GAM EPL Gearbox

The third example is GAM’s SSP – stainless steel gearbox which provides the highest degree of corrosion resistance and protection for packaging and food processing applications.  Every part of the gearbox (housing, motor adapter, hardware, output shaft) is constructed of stainless steel.  The motor adapter can also be provided with an O-ring to further prevent contaminants from entering.  The gearbox is supplied standard with food grade lubrication that meets FDA 21 CFR 178.3570 requirements.  The lubrication is also USDA H1 authorized for use in federally inspected meat and poultry plants.  Click here for more information on our SSP series gearbox.
GAM SSP Stainless Steel Gearbox

These three examples are just a small sample of the different levels of modifications that GAM can provide to our customers in the packaging and food processing industry.  (Further examples include epoxy coatings, stainless steel couplings (KG-VA), nickel plated housings, and special flanges to increase IP ratings).
At GAM, we really understand that not every packaging or food processing application is the same.  For instance, if all you need is a gearbox with a stainless steel shaft, you shouldn't have to purchase a completely stainless steel gearbox which is more expensive.  GAM can take a standard gearbox and provide a stainless steel shaft quickly and cost effectively.  We are willing to learn about your application requirements and then provide a gearbox or coupling solution that meets your exact requirements.  Need assistance on your application?  Call us toll free at 888-GAM-7117 or email sales@gamweb.com
